Introducing Stream Master: A Free Trend Indicator Drawn as a River

We just released Stream Master, a free and open-source indicator on TradingView.

Stream Master on a TradingView chart

Most trend tools answer one question, which way is the market going, with a line that changes colour. That tells you the direction. It tells you nothing about how hard the market is moving, whether the move is running out, or how far into a turn you are. Stream Master is built to show all of that without a single label.

    The river

The current is price smoothed twice over 10 bars. Around it, three layers of water follow with more and more lag, out to the slow water, smoothed twice over 60 bars. Mint water flows up, pink flows down, and blue is slack.

The current, the layers and the wake

Each layer is coloured by its own slope. The inner layers turn first and the slow water turns last, so a turn passes through the river from the inside out and you can see how deep it has gone.

    The wake

When the market moves, the current runs ahead and the slow water trails behind. The gap between them, measured in ATRs, is the wake. Stream Master remembers how long each wake gets and compares it with the last twenty:

  1. Growing: the move has momentum behind it.

  2. Stretched: longer than this market usually runs lately. Not a reversal call, just a reason not to chase.

  3. Fading: the move has given back a quarter of its length. Time to tighten up.

  4. Turning: the current is already going the other way inside the old wake.
  5. Reading the wake

    The panel and alerts

There are no labels on the chart. The panel in the corner says it in words: which way the current flows and how hard, how many of the four layers have turned, the wake's length and state, and where price sits relative to the current.

    The Stream Master panel

Seven moments are available as alerts, including the current turning, price leaving and rejoining the stream, and a pullback to the current that holds. Events are decided on closed bars and never move afterwards.

Stream Master is free for everyone, no membership needed. Add it on TradingView, or see it with the rest of our free and premium indicators.
