Changing an indicator's inputs changes them for that instance, on that chart, right now. Nothing about that is automatically permanent — which is why the settings appear to reset every time you add the indicator somewhere else.
Fix 1: save the settings as your default
Open the indicator's settings, configure everything the way you want — Inputs and Style both — then use the Defaults menu at the bottom of the settings dialog and choose Save as default.
Every future instance of that indicator will load with those values. This is the fix most people are actually looking for.
To go back, the same menu has Reset settings.
Fix 2: save the whole chart as a template
If you want a set of indicators, their settings, and your chart styling to come back together, save an indicator template instead. That bundles the group so a new chart can be set up in one click — full walkthrough here.
Fix 3: save the layout
Layouts store the symbol, timeframe, indicators, drawings and settings. If your work disappears when you reopen the platform, you were probably working in an unsaved layout. Layouts don't auto-save in every situation — press save deliberately, and name it.

Why it can still revert
You're not signed in. Settings, templates and layouts are tied to your account. A signed-out session or a different browser profile won't have them.
You changed a different instance. Two copies of the same indicator on one chart are two independent instances. Configuring one leaves the other untouched.
Browser data was cleared. Clearing site data can remove the local part of your chart state. Saved layouts on your account survive; unsaved work does not.
The script updated. When a script author adds or renames an input, saved defaults for that input may not carry over. Reconfigure and save the defaults again.
You're on a different device. Layouts and defaults sync with your account, but only after you save them — unsaved changes on the desktop app don't appear on mobile.
A setup that stops the problem recurring
Configure each indicator you use regularly, exactly once.
Save as default for each one.
Group the ones you use together into a template.
Build your main chart, apply the template, and save it as a named layout.
